Are you re(a)d-y?

Well hello again! It’s been a while hasn’t it? I know I have  disappeared for ages from the blog so what can I say…shit happens and I’m back! I don’t know if you missed me but I definitely missed writing  and having the creative outlet so it feels good to be back.

Since coming back from Reunion Island a lot has happened. I guess let’s start from the beginning: I got the Australian flu which knocked me out for weeks. I was in bed with nothing but my feverish thoughts and a lot of Tesco soups. Spoiler alert: when you are even too tired to watch Netflix, being signed off work quickly isn’t as fun as it sounds. I got to the point where I felt like Tom Hanks on Cast Away, but instead of talking to a football with a face on it, I was talking to my bag collection (WILSOOOOOOOOONNNNNNN!). Then when I thought I felt better I went to Austria for a long weekend through work, to go skiing and review a couple of ski resorts and hotels (good point of working for magazines= press trips!). It was brilliant and  I think I will do a whole blog post about it so more to come on this. If you like mountains, snow pictures and a lot of dumplings then keep your eyes out for it. While I thought I was rid of my illness troubles thanks to the good old Austrian fresh air, as soon as I went back to London things turned dire again.  My lung infection turned into bronchitis which then turned into early stages of pneumonia. Let’s just say I spent a lot of time at the doctors, doing tests and asking for answers and it took me flying to France and seeing my childhood GP there to finally be heard and get the right treatment to get better. I will not make much comments on the care I got in England but let’s just say if it wasn’t for my French GP taking me seriously I would probably not be feeling the way I feel right now. Downside of living abroad? No health care system can compare to the French one, sorry but it’s true. So I went to see my family in the French Alps, got myself some good pills from the doc and a suitcase full of cheese and I came back to England finally feeling like I could start this year the right way. 

This brings us to the now … and mostly what I learnt from all of this: TAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF.



To say I got a big slap in the face is an understatement. I try to be a get up and go kind of person but I definitely underestimated how your health can mentally affect you. Now I think about it, it’s pretty obvious, if you feel like shit you will not be your fierce and fun self.  It has been a while since I felt so low and like every day was a challenge at which I was failing, but I am sure this is a feeling most of you are familiar with. We try to keep up with everything, going to work, general life admin, seeing friends until we get to the point where the smallest little thing seem all too much.  This is when you realise the most important relationship you should have in your life is with yourself. I wouldn’t ask my friends or family to keep going if they felt dreadful so why was I putting myself through it? Sometimes you just need to let go of the deadlines and the stress and the commitments. The world is going to continue going round. Whatever doesn’t get done today can be done tomorrow and anyone who tells you otherwise is just an energy sucker. Trust me I’m writing this as much for you as I am for me as I definitely need a daily reminder to stop, pause, and ask myself if this is in my best interest.

Nothing wrong with putting yourself first, as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else I say hell to being called selfish. How about we say welcome to the era of being self caring ?  Are you ready?
